Hello, all,
Thought I would pass this along since so many of the NEPSUL teams are in
the Boston area. If you have strong feelings about the direction
Ultimate is headed, be sure to take advantage of the Planning Summit.
Spring is here!

Hi all,
This email contains information about three things:
1. the UPA Strategic Planning Boston Summit;
2. an Observer Clinic being held at Yale Cup;
3. information about the Ultimate Showcase games.
so please read it and pass it along to your team members (Club, College
or HS) and/or anyone else that you think may be interested.
1. Don't let the UPA ruin Ultimate!!!
*Do you think Ultimate should be played with referees, or should
Ultimate remain a player-controlled sport?
*Do you want the UPA to invest heavily in starting a professional
league, or would you rather the UPA invested in grassroots and the youth
division to grow the sport?
*Is it important to you that Ultimate get on TV? If so, what are you
willing to give up to make that happen?
*Is Spirit of the Game important? Is it hindering or promoting the
growth of the sport?
*Do you want more opportunities to play Ultimate? Do you think the UPA
should invest in helping teams or leagues secure fields to play on?
*Should the Championship Series be structured differently? Should there
be more divisions? (Div II, women's masters, grandmasters etc)
*How should the UPA spend YOUR membership dollars?
The UPA is currently seeking the answers to these and many more
questions, and depending on the answers it gets, it's going to start
shaping policy that will effect YOU. Don't be left out of this
process!!! Don't let other people's opinions carry the sport in a
direction you don't like! Now is the time to have your opinions counted.
And luckily for you, you live or play in one of only 4 cities nationwide
that will be hosting a Strategic Planning Regional Summit. Think of it
as the UPA coming to you! And because we're the first summit, ours will
be led by longtime Ultimate player and professional strategic planner
David Barkan who the UPA has hired to lead us in this process.
The Boston Strategic Planning Regional Summit will be held on Sunday
June 10th, from 1:30pm-7pm, location tba.
Please mark your calendars!!! Lunch will be provided at the start of the
summit, as well as hors d'oeuvres at the end. There will also be prizes
and free stuff. The Summit will consist of a lot of discussion and
participation, so rest assured your voice will be heard. And this event
is open to anyone who is or has been connected in some way to Ultimate,
whether as a player, coach, volunteer, parent, vendor, etc, so please
pass the word along.
***If you would be willing to help out with putting this event together,
please let me know, as I will need all the help I can get!!***

And please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
2. Observer Clinic
If you are interested in becoming a UPA certified Observer, there will
be a certification clinic held on April 7-8 in conjunction with the Yale
Cup college tournament. Please email me with any questions you have
about the Observers Program, but if you would like to sign up for this
clinic, or have logistical questions, please email the clinic
coordinator, Jayadev Athreya, at jathreya at gmail.com.
3. Ultimate Showcase
The Ultimate Showcase is a series of high-level games planned for this
summer for the purpose of showcasing the sport of Ultimate.
The goals of the Showcase are:
1) to provide a family-friendly environment to watch top-level
ultimate;
2) to inspire the next generation of elite athletes to take up the
sport we love;
3) to promote ultimate to Boston so we can get field space and
recognition as a top tier sport.
It is also a fun opportunity for elite level players to play on fun
teams, on good fields, and get some free stuff. :)
If you are interested in participating in the Ultimate Showcase by
playing on a Mixed team, please email me. To qualify you must have
played at Nationals in any division.
